BEIRUT: The head of the Order of Engineers and Architects said Thursday that an earthquake might hit Lebanon. “Studies have showed that an earthquake with a maximum 6.5 to 7 on the Richter scale is expected here,” Samir Doumit said during a news conference held by the National Council for Scientific Research (NCSR) on seismology and tectonics in Lebanon. However, he said, “buildings designed with minimum resistibility to earthquakes” will escape much of the destruction. (more…)

ISLAMABAD: Saudi Public Assistance for Pakistan Earthquake Victims, a Saudi relief organization working in Pakistan since October 8 , 2005 has provided 2.0 million US dollar flour bags to World Food Program authorities for onward distribution in quake hit areas of Azad Kashmir and NWFP. huge quantity of flour bags were purchased and handed over to WFP for distribution among quake survivors. ATHENS — A strong earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 5.1 struck the western Greek island of Kefalonia on Monday, the Athens Geodynamic Institute said. There were no immediate reports of damage or injuries.The quake struck at 9:29 a.m. and had an epicenter beneath the seabed off the west coast of the island, 185 miles west of Athens, the institute said. DHIR KOT: People of earthquake victims reported large scale mismanagement in the relief work even after 22 months of the natural disaster that killed thousands in Azad Kashmir and NWFP in October 2005. Billions of rupees were reserved for earthquake victims but due to inefficiency and anti-people policies of the local governments people have left no choice but to visit the offices of Earthquake Reconstruction and Rehabilitation Authority (ERRA) and SERRA for help. ISLAMABAD: Senator Prof. Khuirshid Ahmad has alleged that the government has been failed to mobilize all its resources to meet the calamities in the country.He was participating in debate in Senate on flood situation. He criticized the government government for its lack of preparedness and failure to mobilize resources to meet the calamity. He said that on the basis of estimates available so far over 325 people have been killed and 225 still missing. Over 70,000 houses have been destroyed or very seriously damaged in Baluchistan, Sindh and NWFP. (more…)

MANSEHRA: The Deputy Chairman Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority General Nadeem has said that all out efforts are being utilized to provide modern facilities to the people of quake-hit areas.
