PM visits Chinese embassy to express grief of devastating quake

ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Syed Yousaf Raza Gilani has expressed grief and sorrow over the devastation that took place in China due to recent earthquake. Speaking with the Chinese Ambassador and Staff at the Chinese Embassy here on Thursday, he said Pakistani government and people share this great loss with sorrow with the people of China to whom Pakistan enjoys excellent relations.

He said China is time tested friend and friendship with it is corner stone of Pakistan’s foreign policy.He said Pakistan values its ties with Chinese government and people and people of Pakistan and government stand by the Chinese government and people in this difficult time. The Prime Minister assured China that Pakistan would extend all possible help which it can do to recover this loss. He also expressed solidarity with the Chinese people and hoped they would overcome this tragic phase shortly.

The Chinese Ambassador Luo Zhao Hui thanked the Prime Minister for visiting Chinese Embassy and sharing the feeling of sorrow with the Chinese people in this difficult time. He said Friends in need are friend indeed. He thanked Pakistani brethren and appreciated the government for their support in this difficult time.

Earthquake Kills 3, Injures Nearly 300 in China

BEIJING — A strong earthquake shook southwestern China’s Yunnan province early Sunday, killing at least three, injuring hundreds and forcing the evacuation of 120,000 people, state media reported.

The 6.4-magnitude quake struck at 5:34 a.m. and was centered in an old part of the historic city of Pu’er, in Ning’er County, the official Xinhua News Agency reported. The U.S. Geological Survey said the quake had a preliminary magnitude of 6.2. Read the rest of this entry »
