Strong earthquake strikes southern Mexico

MEXICO CITY: A magnitude-6.1 earthquake shook southern Mexico and was felt as far away as the capital, the U.S. Geological Survey reported.

Duty officer Chen Shenhzao said the earthquake struck Chiapasstate at 8.09 p.m. local time (0109 GMT).
Some Mexico City buildings shook, causing some residents to run out of their homes.
